Planning for the 10th annual @party has begun, stay tuned for further info!
Virtual Spirit – Alanna Rebbeck
(Saturday June 9th, 3pm)
The trajectory of technological development points towards the merging of tech objects and human bodies. While this might ostensibly be a materially-based phenomenon, Alanna Rebbeck believes in the ontological entanglement between the immaterial dimensions of humans and technology: the spiritual and virtual realms. Through her art, including virtual reality, kinetic installation, and digital drawing, she has been developing a concept that she calls the “Virtual Spirit,” which investigates a futuristic paradigm of spirituality.
Mozzi: Self-contained Audio Synthesis on small W$mL platforms – Jim Susinno
(Friday June 8th, 8pm)
Arduino is a popular electronics platform for low-cost, low-power, small-size projects. Its standard library, while powerful, has very limited tone generating capability. The Mozzi library by Tim Barrass expands that capability dramatically, adding Oscillators, Filters, fixed point math and more.
The Arduino Nano provides a new synthesis platform with the smallest yet Watt-dollar-milliliter envelope. Discover how to create a new kind of self-contained, performance-ready musical instrument.
Amiga based Computer Music Software of 199x – Caleb Garner, Part12 Studios
(Friday June 8th, 9pm)
The Amiga was a quantum leap in graphic and audio possibilities in the late 80’s and early 90’s for the demo scene and musicians alike. Join Caleb as he reviews a range of long lost software offering unique sonic possibilities from a trusty Amiga 1200. He will explore a number of long forgotten apps allowing the Amiga to become a unique and valuable part of an modern-ish music studio 27 years after it was released.
Getting started with demo effects in GLSL – Mike “Dr.Claw” Piantedosi
(Saturday June 9th, 11am)
No demo? No problem! Join Dr.Claw as he presents a crash course in democoding focusing on the Khronos Group’s OpenGL Shading Language. We’ll cover classic 2D demo effects like plasmas and twisters and then move onto the basics of raymarching and how lessons learned from classic 2D effects can be applied in a three dimensional context. Attendees can follow along with the examples in a WebGL-capable web browser, and are encouraged to apply what they’ve learned to make a quick party production for the compos later in the evening.
At 7:00 pm on Saturday June 9th, we’ll join Inverse Phase of Pretty Eight Machine fame as he presents some of his favorite oldskool PC, Amiga, and C64 demos, along with a few esoteric surprise platforms. He’s studied a lot of 8- and 16-bit machines and curated a demo playlist with mini-lecture-notes, just for @party 2018!
Additionally the Khronos Group, the standards body responsible for OpenGL, Vulkan, and other important graphics and computing APIs will be sponsoring @party for the third time!
We’ve got a visualist for the Saturday night concert:
In addition to providing visuals, he’ll also be playing his own musical set along with flow mein and Dauragon prior to the compos. It’s shaping up to be quite the evening!
It’s our pleasure to announce the chip musicians who will be performing live at @party 2018:
The concert will be on the evening of Saturday June 9th at 9:00PM and will be followed immediately by the main compo block, neither of which should be missed! Please stay tuned, we’ll be announcing the concert visualist as well as our seminar speakers and the final party schedule shortly!

This is the 9th annual @party and we’re returning to Artisan’s Asylum in Somerville, MA USA. There will be three full days of scheduled programming from Friday June 8th through Sunday June 10th with 24 hour site access.
The room will have a permanently installed sound system and bigscreen comparable in size to the party system of the past five years and you’re welcome to consume meals and refreshments at your computer place. You can’t sleep here though, so please make arrangements for a hotel or roomshare if you don’t intend to stay awake for three days straight.
We’ve also already begun scheduling live acts for Friday and Saturday and seminar presentations for all three days. Stay tuned for further details or contact us if you’re interested in presenting or performing as there are still some time slots available.
Thank you, and we hope to see you at @party 2018!
